Elegant and comfortable, the loop back side chair is a classic. This is one of my most relaxed classes, second only to the 18th Century loop back class which uses a pre-industrial mindset to build a similar chair.
Emphasis will be placed on learning skills and techniques that you can take home with you (of course you get your chair too). All aspects of the chair building process will be covered in detail, except for turning and finishing. I have no secrets and am happy to answer all questions as time permits.
Backs and spindles will be riven from oak logs and seats will be carved from a single piece of white pine. Due to time limitations, the turned parts (legs, stretches, arm stumps) will be provided. At the class’s end, the chairs will be assembled and ready for you to finish at home.
Class size is limited to four students. All tools and materials are provided, plus you get a set of Curtis Buchanan’s plans for your chair. Lunches are also included. No prior experience of any kind is needed. These classes are quite demanding physically, so expect to work long hours and laugh a lot.
A $200 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required to register. If written cancellation is received up to two months before the class start date, a 50% refund will be provided. Within two months no refund is offered.
