Comb Back Rocker

If you prefer a chair with plenty of room and a project with lots of pizazz, this class is for you!

Emphasis will be placed on learning skills and techniques that you can take home with you (of course you get your chair too). You’ll learn to carve knuckles and volutes, attach rockers,  make a step-down arm rail and assemble this impressive chair.  All aspects of the chair building process will be covered in detail, except for turning, steam-bending, spindle shaping and finishing. I have no secrets and am happy to answer all questions as time permits.

The spindles, arm rail and crest will be made and bent at home by the students prior to class.  Before taking this class, you must have taken a class with me or an instructor I am familiar with (Curtis Buchanan, Peter Galbert,  Greg Pennington, etc).

Class size is limited to four students. All tools and materials are provided and amazingly delicious lunches are cooked by a local chef.

A $200 deposit is required to register. If written cancellation is received up to two months before the class start date, a 50% refund will be provided. Within two months no refund is offered.

COMB BACK ROCKER, March 8th to 13th, 2020  – $1700

If the class you want is full, don’t despair! Cancellations might happen, so email me to be added to the waitlist.

"I have been making Windsor chairs for 7 years and sell at craft shows. I came hoping to learn a few new techniques and left with a completely new method of chair making that will greatly improve the quality of my chairs."
– Doug McAvoy
