Craft Films: Gravestones

A beautiful film about beautiful letters, Final Marks is an hour’s visit with the craftsmen of the John Stevens Shop, a letter-cutting shop in Providence, RI. From humble family gravestones to The National Gallery in Washington, the film shows the process of designing letters with ink and brush, then cutting them into stone with mallet and chisel.
A chisel cutting a letter into the stone of the National Gallery is guided by hand, eye and experience. This is the craftsmanship of risk at it’s fullest. An inspiring film.
